How Should I Prepare for a Home Inspection?
Congrats you have conditionally sold your home! Now what? There is a good chance that one of the conditions in the sale is a home inspection. Here are a few tips in preparation for the home inspector:
- Clean up: This leaves a good impression
- Ensure unobstructed access to all of the following applicable items: attic hatches, furnace, hot water tank, electrical panel, boiler, air exchanger, sump pit. (Note: If your attic hatch is in a closet, remove the clothes incase any insulation falls.)
- Replace furnace filter.
- Clean HRV filters (if applicable).
- Put all downspouts in the down position.
- Clear all gutters.
- Have any slow-draining plumbing and/or main sewer lines cleared.
- Remove any pets from the property or secure them in their crate/kennel.
Having a clean home will leave a good impression for the home inspector and new buyers. The entire process of the inspection and walk through usually take around 4-5 hours depending on the size of the property.
